Railtown is an up-and-coming neighbourhood just east of Gastown that is quickly becoming a top destination in the city for trendy small restaurants. Historic and teeming with artist lofts, design shops, and tech companies, this area is an interesting mix of new and old. On this 2-hour culinary journey we visit 5 culinary stops nestled among some of the oldest houses still standing in Vancouver. Join us for a stellar lunch as we taste and learn about the once thriving Japanese community that built this neighbourhood in the early 1900’s.

We start the tour in historic “Japantown” at the H.A.V.E CafĂ©, once the Shibuya clothing company, now a culinary training school that provides food service job training to individuals who experience barriers to employment. We sample their famous tomato soup and grilled cheese, comfort food at its best! Next we move on to one of the newest additions to the neighbourhood, the Uncommon Cafe, for some mind blowing meatballs (recently voted best in the city by The Daily Hive) and a fresh local salad. Next we head to the Settlement Building, an old converted steel warehouse. Here we sample some local BC wines and beer from the only urban winery in Canada and the new Postmark Brewing. Then we head to the popular Railtown Cafe for a unqiue salad and soup combo. We end the tour at the beautiful Cadeaux Bakery for something sweet.

There is an alcohol sample on this tour. The legal drinking age in British Columbia is 19 years of age. You may be required to present your government issued ID to participate in tastings. A secondary piece of ID is also required in BC. Click here to view what ID’s can be used.
